The PlayStation Update that Didn't

I'm sure by now that everyone has heard that the latest update for the PS3 bricked a good portion of PS3s that downloaded the update. Sony has since taken down the update and even given peolpe the old one so that they could go back to where they just were.

If you do have a PS3 and haven't found your way to the remedy, saying that you were one of those eager beavers who wanted the update as soon as it was available, I hear the only way to save the PS3 is to physically remove the hard drive and then format it using your PC. So in short you lose everything but you'll be able to boot the PS3 and install the second to last update and be able to play your games again, though you'll have to set up your profile and all that fun stuff.

From my understanding the update was suppose to allow In Game XMB. Which basically means that you'll have access to a bar similar to the main menu of your PS3 in game. Also with this update was the rumored trophies, or the "it isn't microsoft's achievement system, but its sort of like it, its just called trophies for doing things in the game that meet a certain criteria." With my understanding there are some game companies that will be placing a special icon on the back of their boxes, it shows a cirle with a line through it and under that line a trophy. We'll see if the trophy sensation takes off or not.

Well hopefully Sony will figure something out and get what they promised the world on July 2nd out and about for the masses to possibly drool over.

Blizzard Secret Revealed

Well for those who were with me in the belief of the Diablo series being revived you're in luck Blizzard has just announced the creation of that very game. Here's the trailer.

What was given during the gameplay demo was the following information. There's going to be at least 2 classes, and I'm sure there will be a ton more but the ones that they are revealing right now are the Barbarian, the man who believes that pure raw strength with get the job done, and the Witch Doctor, a man from deep in the jungles who casts several different types of spells as well as has the ability to summon minions.

Also revealed was the fact that there will be interactive environments. The tables and even sometimes the walls will be able to destroyed or used as splash damage to injury your foes. It looks like Blizzard went to great lengths to put emphasis on your surroundings, I personally like the move because it will help with navigation through levels.

Of course there will be tons of quests that will help you along the way and tell you the story of what is happening in the world around you. One of the people that will be handing out at least a quest is our old friend Deckard Cain, who seems to just want to keep kicking with life.

Another improvement with the interaction with the level is the use of more sophisticated traps. In the demo that I view I saw a chest that when attempted to be openned unleased a room full of not so nice friends. I'm sure that there is even more surprises with interaction with other items but that is the one that they showed in the demo.

One thing that does sadden me a bit is that it looks like the potion belt of old is gone, in its place will be the hotkeys for special abilities, which for at least the barbarian and the witch doctor look amazing and lethal. I'm a bit curious as to how they will do the potion management, though if the demo says anything about that I'd say that you can now pick up health after killing certain enemies so that you aren't troubled with having to use potions 24/7.

Blizzard also put a huge emphasis on working as a team. Diablo 3 will once again be using the free to use Battle.net and you'll be able to team up with other players to help guide you through the game. I really hope that the game's balance changes slightly depending on the size of the party, if its just you or if you are teamed up with three other players. It will be interesting to see how that is handled.

So with that part said it looks like a Diablo MMO isn't quite in the works but I think with the emphasis on Battle.net that something in the future might happen, but how they would approach it would be an interesting article in itself.

I personally can't wait to get my hands on this game and I hope that it lives up to the Diablo name but something tells me that Blizzard is not in the business of making crappy games, so just keep a good eye out for this gem.

Blizzard's Big Secret

There has been a lot of speculation revolving around the Blizzard Conference that is being held in Paris, France. Their website is also helping stir up exactly what could be going on here. If you haven't seen the website, the splash screen has been slowly evolving every day. Now there are rumors that this is a teaser for a new Diablo 3, there's also rumors that it will be the annoucement of Lich King for Warcraft, and there's also a light sprinkling of some big news involving the Starcraft 2 project. As each splashscreen has changed different symbols keep appearing, so I'll left the reader be the judge of what is going on... here are the current four

Now I'm personally pulling for a new Diablo 3, that would frankly rock my socks off, but I'm going to hold my breath until an official announcement occurs. I know that there are a lot of sites that are saying that they've confirmed this or that, but I'm not going to move until I see the results of the actual conference.

New Approach

So I've come to the decision that I'm not going to try to review only the brand new games, I'm going to review those games that I have and feel need a little bit of reviewing to help people out. Don't worry I'm not going to pull an PS1 titles out just yet but I will be going through my personal library of games for the PS3, XBOX360, Nintendo DS, Nintendo Wii, and the PSP.

I've also been keeping an eye out on the Apple games as of late nothing has really struck my fancy or made it self visible above the rest. I'm hoping that the big name games will start popping up, but that's still a dream at this point.

I know that there hasn't been any comic updates for a while, and I'm going to remedy that tomorrow. I'll be giving to the world two new episodes for those who are following the comic. I know once upon a time I was updating daily, and then every other day, and then two days a week, but the reality is that with trying to juggle all the background stuff that is going on its really hard to be able to sit down and draw out a comic and have the energy to make sure that it sounds good, at least to me.

So without further adieu here is a list of games that are going to be reviewed starting tomorrow and probably bleeding into Friday depending on how the comics go.

Wii:
Big Brain Academy
Elebits
Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess

XBOX360:
BioShock
Burnout Revenge
