Chromehounds Review

If you like making mech-like machines, then Chromehounds is for you. You will be in charge of creating different variations of huge robotic war machines to take out the enemy and their machines. The single player might really suck because you can't play against other people even though the box says so, but the multiplayer, once you've joined a squad because you can't fight without one, is pretty damn intricate. There will be a war brewing in the lands. Your squad will be aligned with 1 of 3 different nations as they try to strengthen their grasp on the map. If a nation takes over anothers home basethat nation will be severally crippled. You can buy new parts and customize your creation at any time (not in battle). The best part is that there's always a new design out there that becomes the fad and everyone chooses it until someone finds a newer creation that rinders the other useless. There are downloadable parts for a price on XBOX Live, and those can help a little, but most of the parts that are already included in the game will suffice.

The graphics are gritty, they have a nice night vision mode to go with it. You're going to see anything from fields of green to the desert. Overall the graphics fit what the game needs them for.

The controls can at times seem a bit slow to react, but the reality is that its your creation that might have the slow or unstable turn or recoil mechanism.

The gameplay is really simple, conquer the enemy by taking out their base. Each side usually has 3 bases, one of which is really theirs. If a squad destroys the enemies base the game is over, if the squad is completely destroyed the game is over, if the time runs out the squad with the most units left will gain a small victory. At the end of each war, online, your squad will be able to change nations. This is a good tactic if you want to gain all the parts that there are, seeing as different nations have different parts available to it.

If only the box didn't lie to everyone about playing offline this game would have rocked, but as it stands it is deserving of its 7.6 out of 10.
