Perfect World Review

Perfect World, isn't completely perfect, but it has its moments. As my search for an MMO that's not going to continuously eat at my wallet continues I tried this free-to-play MMO. I have to say that the game looks good, and I think that those out there looking for something along the lines of a cheap WoW or LotRO fix can find it in this game. I know that there are probably die-hard fans, as there always are for every game, that will disagree with me telling me that its nothing like those games, but to me that's what I see.
The graphics really depend on the graphics card that you have in your system. Overall I think they look good, they fit the theme of the game, and don't distract too much from what is going on around you. I think the enemy models are interesting, and sometimes a bit exotic, but they work.
The controls drive me a bit nuts, I'm sure there is some key re-mapping that can be done, but I wanted to play the game as is to see what they felt was a good setup, and I have to say that they were slightly off. I guess I might have just been spoiled with the key set up for LotRO, but I think there is room for improvement.
The gameplay has, as I stated earlier, the feeling of a cheap WoW or LotRO. You have the ability to double jump and when you jump you can also do a flip. The flip looks horrific, and once you've done it once I'd recommend you move on from that move. I also feel the pain of my character if you try to do a special attack, if you do that that means until you explicitly tell it to use a normal attack your character will just sit there getting destroyed. I do like the fact that there is a good sense of different areas and a clear indicator of what type of creature you are battling. I don't really like that your character really doesn't change all that much with the different equipment you put on early on in the game, it gets a bit more glamorous as time goes on. Also I feel like there are just way to many quest that feature the always popular, "we must drive off these beasts, go kill X of these, and then after that you'll need to kill X of these other creatures, oh and by the way they're rare in this region so expect to be out there for a couple of hours, and when you get back you'll feel dumb because I'm not going to give jack squat." The only other qualm I have with the game is that there is no clear indicator between what you have on and what you picked up. You can have some sweet armor, but unless you are willing to write down all the stats and then check with what you have equipped and then compare that way, you may never know the differences.
If you are looking for a game that has some population issues in different areas, but feels a little like WoW or LotRO, definitely take this game for a spin. It may not be able to quench your complete hunger but it will allow you to interact in a good environment for a bit. 8.0 out of 10.
