Audiosurf Review

AudioSurf, is a PC game that you can get through the STEAM service. There are several different modes in which you are a ship that is trying to collect colored blocks to the beat of your favorite MP3s. That's right, you will be using your MP3s to play the game.

The graphics aren't overly amazing, but you really don't get to pay too much attention to the world around you as you try to navigate a 3 sometimes 5 lane highway, trying to collect blocks. The different ships you'll be using are slightly different, but once again you're not going to notice much as you are try to collect the blocks.

The controls are really simple once you actually get into the game. You'll either be using the arrow keys (left and right), or you're going to be using the mouse and moving it left and right. I truly recommend that you use the mouse because the movement of your ship, especially in harder modes is crisper and you will be able to move faster.

The music is whatever you choose as your song of choice. So its either going to suck because once you play a couple times you're going to notice that slower songs are easier, or they are going to be the best thing you've ever heard because its one of your favorite songs.

So what you'll be able to do is either play a game with the Audio Surf station music, or choose, from your hard drive, a MP3 to play. You'll also have to decide what type of game you'll be playing. Some of the modes are, trying to avoid grey blocks while collecting all colored blocks, collecting colored blocks but filling your grid with them in such a way as to make matches, and other modes that get a bit more creative with those two basic ideas. At the end of the game you'll be able to see how you scored in comparison with people in the area (I think the state), as well as globally. Sadly I'm not first in the world for any song, but I am second for a Classic Case song, for now.

This game is meant for enjoyment and fun, its not really that hardcore, and there are going to be times where you think that things are a bit repetitive, but overall this game is a keeper and something to have when you not only want to listen to some kick-ass tunes, but want to have them involved in your gaming session. There are some game modes that are just too weird without a tutorial to understand them, which I haven't found, but other than that its a solid game. This game gets a 8.6 out of 10.
