3D Chess Review

3D Chess for the Apple i-pod touch and i-phone is exactly what it sounds like. Its the game of Chess, on your device, in 3D. Now of course its not your regular looking Chess pieces, but it still plays the right way.

Graphically this game at first seems like a great find, that is until you want to zoom in on the board and there's no way to do so. Yes you can rotate the board until your blue in the face, but you can't actually get a better look at the design of the pieces. This game has a battle chess look to it, but the attacking of the pieces is a bit more simplistic. The animations are stock, but from the distance you're viewing it from it really doesn't take away from the game.

Now lets talk about the music and sounds. You might find the slightly patriotic sounding battle music, you might not. I'll leave that up to you, though personally after a while I'm ready to mute it. As for the sounds, as I'm OCD the sounds not syncing up to the pieces moving drive me nuts. So as it seems to be my never changing advice about apple i-pod touch games, keep the volume off.

The controls are relatively simple, and frustrating at the same time. Without the ability to zoom in during game you'll be spending the majority of your turns twisting the board back and forth so that you can select the correct piece you want to select. This game might not be hard for those with small slender fingers, but if you're prone to fat fingering in other games on the same platform you're going to get more of the same.

The game of Chess is both simple and complicated, since I'm not reviewing the actual game, just this rendition of it I won't go into the details. You'll be playing chess against a computer or a human opponent. There will be a timer that will run during play. You'll notice that after checkmate you're going to have to exit out of the entire game before you can start a new game.

The concept was a good one, but I think that this game was probably rushed out and the finer bugs weren't ironed out. I do love me so Chess, but this game isn't for me, and I have to say that I can't recommend this game to anyone. This game gets a 4.5 out of 10.
