EA Active Review

I am truly excited to see video game companies stretching their muscles and really working to make great exercise games. I have to say that Nintendo is really working on this. I have tried many- Wii Sports, My Fitness Trainer and now EA Active. EA Active certainly is on another level. The game incorporating cardio, strength training, weight lifting, and sports training. It includes a leg strap, and stretchy band for resistance with the game. If you have a Wii Board you can use that as well.

The downfall of this game is that it hates left-handed people! I am myself left-handed and am not incredibly ambidextrous. Therefore some of the games can be rather difficult. Also the controls are extremely sensitive and difficult to work with. If you turn your hand at all in the shoulder presses for example the trainer stops and they ask you to remain still. This interrupts your work-out and gets you a bit mad. IT is unfortunate as the exercises are challenging but if you don’t keep up a good pace because the game is slowing you down it can negate the point of the work-out.

One feature I do like is that you can design your own workout. IF you want to do a cardio based workout you can select running, tennis, etc. Or adversely you can pick your favorite sport and practice those movements and skills.

Also I like how you can pick and design the features of your computerized character.

It makes it more personal. Overall I think EA is heading in the right direction. It’s not perfect by any stretch of the imagination but the workouts are mainly fun and you certainly work up a sweat!

Rating: 6.9 out of 10
