Knights Onrush Review

Knights Onrush is an Apple i-pod touch/i-phone game by Chillingo and MoreGames Entertainment. If you've ever played the game Defend Your Castle, this is a different flavor of it. For those who don't know of the game, basically what you are doing is defending your castle from the assaults of the enemies. These enemies can be knights, catapults, stealthy assassins, and more. Your job is to dispose of them by flicking them off the screen, feeding them to the dragon, dropping them into the pit, or killing them with one of the upgrades you can purchase to the castle's defenses.
Graphically this game looks pretty strong. There's no pixilation, and the screen can take a lot of enemies at once. Each different enemy type has a unique look. To be honest I wish that the screen was a bit wider or that the castle was a little further back because when the enemies start coming there are points where it seems like the edge of the screen, where they're coming from, is right on top of the castle's gate.
There isn't any music to speak of, but there are plenty of sound effects. Sadly though you're going to find the mute button rather quickly on levels that are laden with enemies as they will be making a noise after each throw.
The controls are simple pick up the enemy with your finger then you can fling them, put them on a hook, hold over the pit, or use the weapons on the castle by touching them then flinging them in the direction and angle you want.
The game play is simple you're going to have to survive through several waves of enemies, and after each wave you're going to have the chance to upgrade what you have at your disposal. It took me a while to figure out how to purchase some of the items, the ones with the light blue numbers under them. To gain those items that specific number of enemies or more have to be eaten by the dragon, or dropped into the pit. You'll face all different types of enemies that will try to break down your castle's gate. Some of the levels you're going to find its just luck that gets you through. Also some of the enemies can take a couple of flings before they die. The one problem with this game is that sometimes you touch the screen thinking you have one enemy, and you'll end up taking another.
This is a fun little game to pick up. There will be levels where you feel like your finger, and forearm are going to fall off because you're having to touch and fling at lightning speed to save the castle's gate. There is an auto-save feature, so you'll be able to play and stop as you go through the game. This game gets an 8.5 out of 10.
