Wolfenstein RPG Review

Wolfenstein RPG is a spin off of the Wolfenstein games created for the i-phone/i-pod touch. In this game the action and death will be present, but in a turn-based type of way. You'll once again be tasked with trying to escape through several levels, and you'll meet several unique individuals as you go through the game. There's also actual RPG elements to it as you'll be able to read books to help or hinder your character as well as picking up a variety of weapons/items.

The graphics in this game look like an updated Wolfenstein 3D. Which in my mind there wasn't anything really wrong with the first to begin with, so this one shines. The variety of enemies and the ability to easily see different enemy types is crucial in this game. The levels do have some variety to them as well. Most of the levels you'll find the patented hallway look, but there are a couple of outside moments which don't look half bad. The prisoners do all have a certain look to them, which is understandable with restraints I'm sure that had to be made.

The sounds are a bit of the light side as you'll be hearing a short German phrase, the audible noise of your surroundings, and the sound that your weapons make. The main menu definitely has that military battle feel to it.

The controls are something that at first made me hesitant to play this game. I'm not a fan of the controls being on the screen and having the capability of confusing the player when they get into crunch time situations. With the fact that this game is turn based the controls work beautifully. There's a directional pad that you'll utilize. There's also some touch and drag motions that will be used as well. The controls really make sense in this game.

So you're trying to escape and be the killing machine that we all know we're going to be in the game. You'll have an arsenal of weapons that you'll gain throughout the game. You'll also be recieving several items that will enhance your character for a short time. There will be some items that you'll pick up and they will magically disappear, which I think is a shame. There were a couple of times where I got turned around in the game, but because this isn't a timed game, or one where the enemies will be able to traverse huge distances, I quickly got back on the right track, and was able to enjoy the game.

This is a game that, if you've got some time to kill, from time to time, you should pick up. It is a solid game with good graphics, a control scheme that works, and isn't easily forgotten, and contains an experience that's worth having. This game gets an 8.8 out of 10.
