Fable III Review

Another entry into the choose the evil or good side of saving a world torn by strife. You will once again be carrying the mantle of hero, and it will be your job to protect Albion from all that plagues it. You will once again have your trusty dog at your side to help you along the way, as well as a variety of weapons (melee, ranged, and magic). Come explore all of the realm around you, and help the good people with their quests.

Graphically this game looks the best to date, the issue though is that there is some serious lag issues with the game that will terrorize your graphical experience. Do not be alarmed if you see strange vectors of shading appear out of nowhere, or if you happen to see graphical tears in the character's close or in the game world itself, you are not alone. There's a variety of people that you'll get to see and its refreshing not to be walking up to the same person with a different name in each town, but if you look closer you will see the little trick they tried to pull off, and in my opinion failed in, that of course is the fact that there's basically somewhere around 5 features for hair, clothes, skin color, etc and they just randomly mix it up. As a result some of the combinations are hideous. Also if you're looking for attractiveness in the game, you might be sorely disappointed as no one really stands out.

The music and sounds of the game feel a bit recycled, almost like they took what Fable 2 had to offer and then tried to re-master the music and sounds. There's also some very tired lines, by the end, that you will hear constantly as you are trying to traverse the land, enter your sanctuary, or walk through a town.

The controls is the one thing I really liked. Yes I felt like they were definitely simplified over the past two installations of the game, but in the end it made it more enjoyable to be in combat. My one issue about the controls, and its not really about the controls per say, is the VERY limited amount of actions that you were able to accomplish with an NPC. I'm sorry but I want to shake a gentleman's hand to get in his good graces, not dance and pick him up off the ground for the grand finale.

This is a game that I've been dying to get my hands on. One that has been talked up for a good long time, but to be honest with you I wish that I had to wait a bit longer for this game. In the end the product felt rushed and there were several issues that happened in the game that should not of. Things like the serious amount of lag when trying to go through an area that was supposedly completely loaded in. If you're going to give me a load screen the game better run beautifully afterwards, that's all I'm saying. Also I can't imagine people being so blind to the art issues with the clear tearing, and artifacts created by the graphics engine. The game overall was fun, and I enjoyed it but once you got to the big twist and figured out what would ultimately create you as the ruler (good or bad), I really started to dislike the game. In my opinion you can't go around punishing a player so severely for wanting to go the route of good. I ended up spending close to 10 to 12 extra hours trying to cancel out the penalties that were imposed upon me because I wanted to do the right thing. Without giving too much more away I would like to leave you with this final bit of advice. You're going to have a countdown timer of some sort that counter decrements at random intervals, don't ever trust it.

There's definitely some upside to the game, its a good Fable game, but at the end of the day, this isn't a game that I can say run out and get. Go through the paces and rent it, and then you can return it. Better yet get it from GameFly, perhaps you can find more enjoyment that I. This game gets a 6.3 out of 10.
