GAME.minder Review

GAME.minder is an application that you can use on on your i-pod touch, i-pad, or i-phone. This wonderful little app will tap you into the world of release dates, for video games, and stay ahead of the curve. The best part about this application is the fact that you can specify what systems you're interested in knowing reviews for. An even better piece about this app is that its free and it comes to us through the company Handelabra Studio.

I found this application relatively easy to navigate. With just being limited to the touch screen it is refreshing to see that they didn't try to over complicate things. I was able to easily find the exact titles that I was looking for and was able to set reminders for them. Now for the really cool part, if something changes you're going to see a little notification window pop up and tell you that there's been a change so that you can go look at it. Now I think it would be cool if you just got the release date information, but you get so much more. You'll also be able to get a description of the game, get the wikipedia info on the game, and also be given options to find games like the one that you've selected. What I mean by this is that you can then sort all the game release dates by the developer, publisher, or even genre. This is seriously a tool needed by anyone who needs to know about when they can get their hands on the latest and greatest games out there.

Now there are a couple small little issues, and the first one is reasonable. You're going to need to periodically have a wi-fi connection so that all your information can get updated and also so you can get the messages sent to you if there's been a chance in the title that you have a reminder set for. There's also some release dates that seem to all be a day off, even though in the description they have the correct date listed. Sometimes the description doesn't really tell you very much about the game and you're left scratching your head as to why even show that. The last issue is that sometimes titles have multiple release dates and that can do some interesting things for you if you're trying to sort by release date.

I do like the fact that there is some color coding going on within the application. It's easy to spot games that have been released, ones coming out next week, and ones that are coming out further down the line. I just wished that when I'm searching for a game that I didn't have to see the games just released, I wish there was a way to turn that off so that I can just see the game coming up.

With all that being said this is a solid app that gamers need to have if they have a portable device on the Apple platform. This definitely gives you the power to get information when you need it and in one place so that you don't have to hunt all over the internet to get it. This app gets a solid 8.9 out of 10.

We are definitely looking into an Android version, that was the #1 thing we heard from gamers at PAX East. In the meantime you can follow @GAMEminder on Twitter or Facebook to see when new games are added to the system. Or find an old iPod touch =)

Thanks to Charlie for the review, it was great to meet you at PAX! You guys have a great review site.
