    SUNK! Review

SUNK! is a game from an independent studio right here in Atlanta, GA called Thousandhundred. It is a puzzle game in which you are tasked to blow up the evil submarines with a very limited amount of deep water mines to take them all out. This game is designed for the iPhone and contains 75 challenging levels to get through.

Graphically you're going to see most of what the game has to offer a couple of levels in. The background does change ever so slightly as you progress through the game, but you're probably not going to really notice the underwater picture all that much as your true focus will be on the submarines and how they are laid out. You'll also be introduced to friendly submarines that you'll have to avoid. For an iPhone this game's graphics accomplish what they set out to do.

The music is something you're only going to be able to listen to for the first couple of levels, after that, when the game gets more challenging you're going to grow quickly tired of the endless sound loop.

The controls are simple. You're going to drag the mines onto the 9 x 8 grid field. Once you have the mines set up in such a way that all the evil subs will blow up you'll be given a detonation button.

I have to admit I threw myself into the game. After the first couple of levels I figured how hard could it be. I raced through the first 32+ levels with relative ease, and felt good about conquering this game quickly. Then I hit a brick wall and the lay out of the mines became less obvious. This is truly a challenging game when you get into the meat of it. All I have to say is thank goodness that there is a HINT button that may be utilized at the expense of your feelings of expertise. I will fully admit that there were a couple of puzzles in which I had to use the HINT button twice to figure out where exactly those mines needed to go.

So I've talked a lot about the mines, well that's because they have different ranges and they will go in different directions, that's what makes the game truly challenging. There's also levels with LOCKED mines that you'll have to use to defeat that level. Some times its all about redirecting the blast that will take out a friendly sub, and sometimes its all about trying to weave the blast pattern through clogged waters. The real issue you'll run into is the fact that if you put a mine in the blast path of another mine you could potentially change the direction of the blast. If the mine is suppose to go 4 squares to the left, but on the second square you put a mine down that only shoots up 2 squares, well you've lost the other two to the left.

If you're looking for a challenging game to pick up for your iPhone that isn't going to break the bank, but will challenge you through all 75 levels, you're probably going to want to check this game out. As is always the case with games like this once you get to the end you want more levels. There's not really any alternative solutions for some of the levels, so the replayability is rather low, but it is still a strong enough game that you'll keep it on your phone, just in case you feel that itch. This game gets an 8.7 out of 10.

Well I wouldn't say completely destroy your mind, but it did cause my mind to truly work in over drive to get some of the levels completed.
