The Invincible Review

After a long and stressful scientific exploration you and your crewmates are on their way home to share what you have found. That’s when things go sideways as everyone is awoken prematurely in a place that no one knows, Regis III, and it is the decisions of the crew that will change all their lives forever in The Invincible. You will play the role of the astrobiologist of the team, Yasna, and it will be your decisions that will carve out what type of story/adventure you have in store for you. There is something very wrong with this planet, and it’s only going to get worse.

I have to admit this is a game that is a little tricky to review, for two reasons, the first is SPOILERS, and the other reason is that your decisions affect the story so if I were to say something about what is going on in the game it might not happen to some if not all the readers of this specific review. I am able to tell you that you’re going to be doing a lot of walking and exploring in this mostly desert planet, and you are going to be faced with decisions that will indeed change your game from others. The controls are pretty straight-forward in the game, if there is something that you can interact with you’re going to get an indicator on the screen. I would highly suggest that you comb through all the areas that you interact with, you never know if there is something that because you interacted with it will change your story for the better.

This game got me emotionally invested in the outcome of Yasna’s life, as well as the lives of my crewmembers. There are flashbacks that appear throughout the game that will fill in some of the blanks with what is going on in the story currently, and you will want to be an active participant in those flashbacks if you’re going to get, potentially, the best outcome options when you’re faced with making a decision.

The Invincible isn’t for everyone, but if you’re into hard science-fiction and/or you’re a fan of the Polish author Stanisław Lem, or perhaps you’re just looking for something that is futuristic and makes you care about your character, this might also be a game that you’re going to look into. I kind of wish that the interactions I had in this game were the type of interactions and story that I could have had when I explored the planets in Starfield, but maybe that’s just me.
